So you’ve decided to homeschool, now what? Homeschool registration in NSW isn’t as complex as it first seems.
If you are in NSW and your child is of compulsory school age, you need to register for Homeschooling with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) . The NESA website contains all the requirements you need to meet for homeschooling registration. It also contains sample homeschool plans to help with your registrations process. It’s also the place you will find the NSW curriculum to help with your creating your plan.
Once you apply for homeschooling, a home visit will be arranged with your Authorised Person (AP). The authorised person will come out to your home to talk with you and the children. They will go through your homeschool plan and will be interested in how you plan to document your learning. This includes how you will record your learning activities as well as student achievement and progress.
All being well you will be granted homeschool registration and the formal certificate will arrive in the post a few weeks later. If you have previously been enrolled in a school, you will need to provide a copy of this certificate to the school.
All the details for registration can be found on the NESA website.
Next step: create your homeschool plan and select your curriculum.
